Another "What Year" Thread
Alright, I tried to jump on Relic's thread about his Imperial but got no response, so I guess I'll do this the right way and start my own topic. I have this Imperial Mark 4 that unfortunately came to me with a bit of a rough re-paint so I'm just sort of slapping it together as a beach cruiser with a springer fork and some white wall balloon tires. The only serial # that I could find was on the left rear drop out and it is E184976. As I mentioned in Relics thread, it seems to me that this bike is older than '63 as the "E" in the serial # might suggest. I guess the head tube badge is more copper than brass but it's a really nice peice. If this isn't the right serial # then does anyone know where it should be located? As mentioned, it's re-paint so it's hard to find anything. I've checked right below the seat post and the bottom bracket to no avail.
What year is this sucker?
Thanks, Pat
I tried to attach photos but they are 133 and 116 kb and I'm not entirely sure how to make them smaller.
E = 1965
The headbadge looks correct for 1965.
The forks, handlebars, pedals, tires and possibly the wheels do not look correct.
The J code bike in the other thread would be a 1967.
Thanks ccmmusclebikes. The forks were bent in the stem and as mentioned it has a bad re-paint so I didn't feel bad about making it into a mild custom. It actually rides pretty nice.
Just out of curiosity Mr. ccmmusclebikes, my serial # decoder page shows an E code as 1963 pending authentification (or something like that) do you have a better, more acurate serial # decoder?
Here is the most recently modifed chart.
The years from 1975 and up are still not 100% confirmed yet, but the rest have been discuused with collectors on this and other sites and we feel it is very accurate.
Here is a shot from the 1965 CCM poster. Click on it to enlarge it.
Thanks, I could use some of those 26x1 1/2 white walls. And that nice blue and white seat for that matter.
