CCM Model & Date

Hi,

I am new to restoring CCM Bicycles.  I was wondering if anyone could identify this model/year.  The serial # (stamped on L dropout is J271947...does that mean it is a 1947? It cam with a Komet Super 161 coaster brake.  I noticed the lacing of the rear wheel is a three-cross but all three crosses are over and not two over and one under.  Also I am looking for a chain guard for this bike.  I assume it had one.  Either original or after market will work, preferably in white or chrome.

Thanks and take care,

Daryl

Your bike appears to be a 1967 Rambler mens bike in mountie red as the J code suggests. Also the head post has a paper CCM decal not a metal one, which also suggests 1967 as the first year it was used. It has the white fenders and should have a white chain guard. The chain guard should be the shark nose design which was first used in 1967. The hand grips should be white. The seat should be two tone red and white. The peddles appear correct. Hope this helps.

Carl is right Daryl wink I saw one like this in another site but i can't remember where was this site. However, I have a blue one for lady , the year is 1965 and i have a white chain-guard with ' RAMBLER ' written on it.

Has anyone seen two of the rarest CCM banana bikes ever made? One is a purple 1965 Mustang, the other is a Sears Screamer girls bike which is a 1969 girls Cobra frame in the color purple.

I believe the purple Mustang is not a 1965 and not a true Mustang, but a modified Rambler Scrambler. If somebody unearths an ad, I'll gladly change my mind.

The purple Cobra framed Sears bike is confirmed in the 1969 Sears catalogs. I'd love to find that bike!

Thanks for answering my question about the purple mustang, but the Mustang I saw was brand spanking new sitting right beside a green Mustang. It was at school on the bike rack, a brand new purple Mustang.  I saw it with my own eyes. This was not a modified Rambler Scrambler,  CCM put them out to be a real Mustang.  CCM did this a lot, they didnt always picture advertise. They wouldn't show all colours even if they made multiple. They also put out Purple 1967 Mustangs but never had pictures of the bike in that color. If you say its not a true Mustang then you could say a Cobra is just a modified Charger. I think Im one of the only peopke to remember seeing the Purple Mustang and I'll have to keep looking for one. True, most of them were green, but they did make them in purple.

You are absolutely correct. I have a 1968 purple Mustang and it is not a Rambler Scrambler as some people say it is. It

has all of the correct decals and markings for an original Mustang. CCM did advertise the 1968 Mustang in green, but

that is not to say they did not produce purple ones as well. CCM did produce a lot of irregularities in their product lines.

Good luck looking for your purple Mustang.

Carl

Hi,

Just an update on the 1967 Rambler.  I was able to find and original shark nose chain guard!  It was painted blue over the white, but in excellent shape.  Unfortunately I will need to repaint it so i will lose the decals.  Just the same it is much, much better than anything after market I could image finding to suit this bicycle.

Thanks again everyone,

Daryl
