Found on a fence

Hi All,

Recently purchased this bike from an antiques shop in Clinton, BC. Mainly just wanted the duomatic hub but it'd be neat to know more about the bike too.

Someone gave it a coat of pink latex at some point. Wheels are 26".

Wondering about model and whatever else you might know.

thanks

A number of ccm bikes from that era were very similar. It may be difficult to identify the model without knowing the original paint scheme and accessories. AXXXXX serials are thought to be 1969.

The subject bicycle is not from 1969. While it uses the same serial number format as 1969, it is in the wrong location. A 1969 serial number would be stamped on the lower, non-drive side of the seat tube. A 1969 model would also use a fork with the rake starting on the upper half of the blade. Finally, a 1969 would not have what appears to be the riveted, metal headbadge that was used in the 1950s and early 1960s. Based on my current understanding of the CCM serial numbers, I'd place this frame circa 1958-1959, though others would say as late as 1961-1962. However, I do agree that it's diffcult to identify the model once it's been repainted and possibly stripped of some OEM parts and accessories.

Thanks for the replies. Interesting about the year information. I was somewhat skeptical of the construction style for 1969. The duomatic it came with is a J (1966) code, so I guess someone added that after purchase.

I've got the bike mostly torn apart now and was going to attempt to a restore but the chromed stem is pretty fused into the fork. To be honest, I'm thinking of just junking the frame and fork unless there's a case to be made for keeping it around.
