LOOKING FOR TIRES

Hello all,

I realize that what I am looking for may not be common, but you don't know until you ask. I am looking for correct rubber for a 1950/51 CCM balloon Motorbike. The 1951 catalogue lists 26x2, and a wise friend stated i need 26x2.125.  I would love white walls, but would settle for black. Everything on bike is original except for the rubber. Any help or leads would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Steve

Hello,

The 26 X 2.125 tires will not fit. They are for American size 26 inch rims that have a bead diameter of 559 mm. You need tires that are made for rims with a 571 mm bead diameter. This size rim was used for CCM bicycles that had a 26 X 1 1/2 rim. It was originally based on an English rim that was designated as 26 X 1 3/4 W.O.. I have not found new tires marked as being 26 X 1 1/2 Canadian size for many years. However, if you look on Ebay.com, and do a search for 26 X 1 3/4 tires. These tires should have a 571 mm bead diameter and were used on some Schwinn bicycles. They will fit the CCM 26 X 1 1/2 rims and should also be available as a whtewall. They will probably not have as big a cross section as the original Dunlop 26 X 2 tires that came on the CCM Balloon tire bikes. One other sourcr is on Ebay U.K., if you do a search for 26 X 1 3/4 X 2 tires. The French will also have a 650 tire designation for this size, which could be 650C, but you would have to check on this. Your local cycle shop may be able to bring in something if you ask them for 26 X 1 3/4 tires.

Good Luck!

Look for tires that are designated 52-571. The 52 is the width in  mm and 571 is the bead seat diameter in mm

As  you may already know  the first number can vary and the tire will still fit. The bead seat diameter must be 571 to fit your rim

Balloon tires were around two inches wide

You will have to decide if you want tires that look more like a vintage tire or something that is modern. Most available 52-571 tires will have a modern look. The 28 X 1 3/4 tires are available with white walls, but may not be quite as large in cross section. Tires that are very large may rub against the frame unless your wheels are absolutely true.

Google  Cycle  Babac  They might still have tires for you 26x2x1 3/4  CYT H522  Canadian size  571x57. They show a white wall . You can give them a call.

Nice looking tire. On sale too. "Canadian size" as Dave said. You have to check Babac's list of retailers.

> DURO <  makes a traditional Goodyear tread 26 X 2.0 in the 52-571 sizing which I refer to as the British sizing vs the American sizing of 26 X 2.125. Unfortunately, NOT in white wall! Not sure they are still being made. I have a set mounted on a 1 9 4 0  Westwood rimmed wheel set.
