Chrome Flyer

Anyone have any idea what year this bike could be. It is mostly original except it is chrome. It has a serial number R873. It has a Leatheries saddle, Dunlop Special lightweight rims, Dunlop tires, Baliss Wiley hubs, rear is double fixed but may be free on 1 side, I have not looked close enough. . It is a CCM but the serial number doesn't show up on the charts. The frame was most likely chromed early in its life. It has the pencil stays that are open at the bottom but the tops look to be braised before chroming. It was owned by a NHL hockey player who played in the 40's. He used the bike in the off season to keep fit. Any idea what year it could be.

Sorry I can't help with any info, I just wanted to say that is an awesome looking bike, and what a great story to go with it! I hope you get the answeres you're looking for.

The Flyer serial numbers are quite puzzling. Some appear to match known formats, while others don't and still others have no serial number at all. Given that P is 1930 and S is 1931, it's quite tempting to sssume that it is from this period, though there is no objective evidence. Regardless, it is a beautiful frame.

However, I do notice that it appears to have a undersized seat post, as the cinch slot is almost pinched shut at the top. It also does not appear to have rivet holes for a headbadge. I assume they have been filled?
