VINTAGE 1940 CCM DOUBLEBAR SINGLE SPEED FOR SALE CLEVELAND? HUMPHREY?

Hi everyone,

I'm an absolute newbie fan of CCM bikes, I acquired a gorgeous green CCM Elan city bike last year and it's serving me well for my work commutes!

I found this very old CCM bike through a kijiji ad and just had to buy it.  Unfortunately I never got around to finding a local buyer in the Edmonton area so I thought I would try my luck here on the forum.

A bit of history about this bike, I'm the third owner.  Originally it was purchased in Winnipeg by the second owner's father who brought it over to Edmonton when the family moved.  The second owner claims his father returned to Winnipeg at some point to clear our a CCM dealer of some NOS parts to fix up this bike when it was in used and abused, hence the really nice chrome bits.

Anyways, as you can see, it's in decent shape but it was repainted by the original owner and kinda looks like a fixie now.  The original seat leather broke down and was just covered with some sort of hide.  I have not made ANY modifications to the bike.  It comes with the basket and everything you see that is currently on the bike.

According to the serial number I believe the tables on the forum indicate this is a 1940 CCM but I can't tell what specific model it is.

Please feel free to make an offer for it, I'm happy to take additional pictures or chat about the bike, just email me and I'll reply with my cell phone number.

Remember that the bike is located in Edmonton Alberta.

Thanks for your time, this website is pretty sweet!

Hi. Great looking bike. According to a CCM serial # code page I found, this bike is a 1940 model.

The fenders look a lot newer, but nice bike still.

The 1940 catalog shows three different double bar bike models.

They are the CCM "Motorbike", the CCM "Balloon" Motorbike and the CCM "Rambler" Motorbike.

All 3 are shows as coming with fork trusses and only the Rambler does not appear to have come with a chainguard.

The "Ballon" Motorbike would have 26" chrome rims the others would be 28" rims (the Ramblers being painted, the "Motorbike" beiing chrome with a red stripe down the middle).

That's all I got.  :-)

Ignore the occassional typo. laugh

Thanks for the research info everyone!

Here's some additional info for anyone interested in making an offer:

Seat Tube Length = 22"

Floor to Top Tube Length = 34"

Crank size = 8.5"

Tired = 27"

Whoops, one more detail:

I would prefer a local sale to someone in Alberta but If all else fails I would be fine with shipping it outside of the province.

And if anyone would like a selling reference, you can locate my profile on ebay under Springer23

We should be able to safely eliminate the Balloon Motorbike model as you shouldn't be able to fit 27" wheels with what appears to be that much clearance. That should  narrow things down to the Motorbike and Rambler Motorbike. One could argue either way based on the current components. Howver, there's a possibility that the saddle may be OEM, as the previous owner recovered it, rather than replacing it. If so, it doesn't appear to be a Mesinger saddle, which should make it a Rambler Motorbike. In the end, the model is moot, as both used the same frame and the new owner could build it up either way, depending on the component selection.

Does anyone have an opinion on where this price should be valued? $100 or closer to $300?

Thanks for your thoughts everyone!

Hi,

I was wondering if you still have the bike, I'm in Calgary and come up to Edmonton once or twice a month, and am Interested in the bike. I'm 6'-2" and was wondering if this would fit me?
