The first thing about this bike is that the prewar diamond head badge has been added. My guess is that this bike was made in 1949. CCM planned to introduce a complete line of new bikes in 1949 and these are all illustrated in their 1949 brochure, which is hard to find. This is not the same as the 1948 catalogue which showed two new models for 1949. There were a lot of models with Sturmey Archer 3-speed hubs.

When you look at the frame on your bike, it has the English Haden lugs, which CCM first started using in 1949. The lugs are also cut away so that they are "fishtailed", like the early Flyers. This suggests that it was meant to be a racer model.

Somewhere I have the 1949 brochure which shows the various models. I will see if I can find it. This is a rare bike.

thanks :)  the guy told me that was a saber !  but soon i can get the serail numeber that will tell us all i beleive

oops ! wrong word !  sabre ! right ?

There should be a serial number on the non-drive side of the seat lug. The frame does appear to be post war, so as noted by John, the head badge would appear to a replacement. However, it also appears to be pre-1950, if the sunburst paint scheme is OEM. The bicycle utilizes a small diameter seat post, so it is one of the plain carbon steel frame. In addition to the Club Racer variants, I believe that there were several Sports Roadster variants that used the same frame, which may account for the mudguards and upright handlebars. However, the non-logo, UEK style crankset raises the probablity of a CCM budget brand or a non-CCM brand that was contract manufactured by CCM.

just got ! serial number is 27766E

The serial number indcates that the frame was manufactured during 1953, making it either a 1953 or 1954 model. So, as John stated the head badge is a definite replacement. The closest catalogues that I have are 1951 and 1954. There are no models in this frame style with a sunburst paint scheme, so it does appear to be a repaint.

It is too ealy to be a Sabre. As stated earlier, it appears to be based on either a Club Racer or Sports Roadster variant, though the non-logo, UEK style, cottered crankset indcates the possibility of a CCM budget brand or a client brand.

im gone get the bike early next week

but the guy ho sold it to me is convince the paint is original

the tire are dunlop and  they are 26 x 1-1/4

During the early 1950s, the only catalogued models that still retained the sunburst style paint jobs were the balloon tyre and motorbike (double top tube) models. The others had transitioned to a simpler, modernized paint scheme with contrasting paint only on the head tube.

Assuming the paint is OEM, would further suggest that it was not originally marketed as a CCM brand  but one of the budget brands or contract manufactured for a 2nd party. It was common practice for CCM to continue to offer older components and paint schemes on budget and customer brands after they had updated their premium brand models. That would fit with the non-logo, UEK style, cottered crankset. It would also be another reason to seek out and apply a CCM head badge, even if it was the incorrect vintage.

Another possibility would be that the original owner ordered it with custom paint. However, this seems far less likely. During this era, custom paint was only being offered on the high end models, such as the Prolite Flyer.
