1939 CCM Hub

Received the following the letter. Can anyone offer any help? John

Hi! My cousin's trying to re-assemble the Hub of this 1939 CCM she acquired
and can't seem to figure out where these two triangle-shaped pieces go. One
of your archived photos shows the exact same parts disassembled, we were
wondering if you could help us out. They're two slightly curved triangular
chrome plates.
Thanks!

My Bikes and serial numbers.

I have the identical bike! Well it was identical!!!  to the bike in Forum topic - age my bike. My serial number is  G153189. I was told it was a 1974...? CCM serial numbers are confusing me! I'd just like to know what decade it's from??? I bought it thinking it was from the year my girlfriend was born. I also have a CCM Encore serial E87604, was told it was 68 or 69 !?!  My CCM tandem serial D24570, belive it to be a 1971?

A recent find!

This is a work in progress! Just found this a few months ago. It was rough and had broken frame. Cleaned it up, fixed and painted the frame. Still working on the fenders and chain guard. Had her down at Hutch's last week!!!

1960's and 1970's serial numbers

Here is my work in progress "1960s and 1970s serial numbers" chart.

I collected the data from over 50 CCMs, my collection of catalog from the 60s and 70s and have a lot of confidence in my findings. :-)

The previous thread discussed a blue woman's bike with a "G" serial number.

It looks like a 1966 to me!

age of my bike

Hi

First time posting here. I'm restoring an old CCM bike that belonged to my late wife when she was a girl. I'm trying to figure out how old it is.

The serial # is G006468. It has a CCM crank and Hercules coaster brake. I would guess that it was purchased new in the mid to late '60s, but that's just a guess. Picture attached.

Any help greatly appreciated.

thanks

john

This is a true survivor, the upper seat stays have been modified (out of necessity, it would appear)  as has the saddle leather,  and the chain guard is wrong.  I particularly admire the sweeping bars.  It has a CCM Hercules rear hub and a Brit front.  This bike has a charm unto itself,  I will just clean it up, tune it and leave it as it is. Just another piece of "eye candy"

Quality Control

I guess the reputation of the CCM bike as being a sturdily-built machine was well-earned. I was talking to a lady today whose mom and dad and uncle all worked at CCM beginning in 1950. She explained that in the early days when the company was about to introduce a new bicycle model, they'd throw one from the roof of the factory to determine if there were any weak spots. I kid you not! Later on, she said, they began to give them to the children of employees who could keep them for a year.

replated plating chrome, what is it worth?

I am working on the CCM Ranger and the stem and handlebars need to be either cleaned and rechromed, painted or replaced... I was wondering is people have had parts rechromed, and is it is worth the effort?

Bayliss-Wiley Front Hub on a '68? CCM Ranger?

I picked up a CCM Ranger last week, I have been stripping it down, my research on the serial number suggests it is a 1968 model, it has 26" painted wheels, and looks like a smaller sized Rambler. The rear hub is a 1937 Patent coaster that I have stripped down and is in excellent condition, today I stripped the front hub down though and it is a Bayliss-Wiley made in England. I looked up their hubs and saw a lot of high flange front hubs, but this isn't a high flanged hub, it is loose bearings 10 per side....

Massey Harris head badge

My collection of ancient Canadian bicycles is growing with the addition of a 1905 Massey Harris. I am looking for a head badge and I am willing to pay good money for one.

it seems as though head badges were removed and  collected after old bikes were considered out of date, so head badges must be out there!

If you have one that you want to sell please contact me. barkmadly@netspace.net.au

Cheers,
