1935 Motorbike Superb?

Hi, I just bougth What I think is a 1935 CCM Motorbike Superb

There are some obvious unoriginal parts on it but would you help me for an autenticity check?

serial number is X22668,

original color is maroon.

wrong handlebar, saddle

I dont think it should have a chainguard

not sure of the coaster brake

Can you think of any reason why the top tobe would be drilled?

This bike is in a pretty descent shape. I rode it back home for 12 km with a smile on my face...

At a quick glance, the crank, pedals, fenders, seat, and wheels appear to have been switched if it was actually a motorbike superb. It could have just been a motorbike, in which case the crank could be correct.

The chain guard as well as the handlebars and stem have also been changed. it is really only a frame which has been repainted from the original maroon.

I believe the crank sprocket is incorrect. It should be the older style

In other words, it's a 1935 motorbike frame rebuilt with miscellaneous parts and bits...

The original plan was to have 2 ridable vintage bike and that's wath I get. Of course I would have liked to find a gem...

in the other hand I will feel less guilty to use it rather than just hang it like in a museum. Isen't it the purpose of a bike.

Would it be a sacrilege to properly paint it sapphire blue and replace the saddle for a Brooks Flyer?

I think that you should go ahead and make the changes that you want, and enjoy the bike. It is a bit tricky finding a paint now that is close to the original "Saphire Blue". The easy way to repaint in blue is just to survey the available suppliers in your area to see what blues are available in spray cans. If you want to come close to CCM's Blue, you may be able to find a sign painter's supply in your area that carries "One Shot" enamel. This is used by automotive pinstripers and sign painters. it is avery high quality traditional-looking enamel that can be carefully applied by brush, or put in a spray can by an Auto Body Shop Supplier or Paint Shop. There are a few blues in the One Shot line and one of them should be a close match to Saphire Blue. If you like, you can check for any One Shot paint dealers in your area by checking on the One Shot web site. The Brooks saddle is very nice, but it may not be quite as comfortable as the original seat.

If my memory is correct, the One Shot colour that is close to Saphire Blue is called Brilliant Blue. The original seat on your motorbike was probably a Messenger.

I wouldnt hesitate to change the bike to however you want it and ride. From my experience the bike models of value are

Flyte

Original paint, early 50's and older

Pre 1923

Road racers and flyers

Delivery models with proper basket frame

Of course this is a complete generalization so take it with a grain of salt.

But I got a repainted Rambler Motorbike that was completely original so I replaced the wheels with repro westwoods and shimano hubs, brooks saddle and more modern bars and stem. Now its a commuter. I kept all the original parts to change it back if needed

The paint looks ok the way it is. If you're thinking of doing a complete repaint you might want to fix the holes in the frame first. They look quite large. You wrote that you rode it home with a smile on your face - I think that's the important thing. Maybe just ride it and enjoy it.

good looking bike !
i love mine too
