age of my bike

Hi

First time posting here. I'm restoring an old CCM bike that belonged to my late wife when she was a girl. I'm trying to figure out how old it is.

The serial # is G006468. It has a CCM crank and Hercules coaster brake. I would guess that it was purchased new in the mid to late '60s, but that's just a guess. Picture attached.

Any help greatly appreciated.

thanks

john

Between 1963 to 1965 if i'm not wrong and I have one like this but the model is RAMBLER

Are you sure it's a "G"? CCM does appear to have used "G" in their serial number formats. I've always assumed this is because of the possible confusion with a "C", which they did use. An incomplete "G" could look like a "C" while a damaged "C" could look like a "G".  If it's a "C", that would make it a 1963 model.

T-Mar: No doubt about it...it's a "G" in the serial number. It's very clear.

bikedenis: Thanks. I looked up pictures of CCM Rambler bikes and that's it for sure.

The number "64" appears on the coaster brake part. I thought it was a part or model number, but I suppose it could be the year of manufacture.

The badge says 'CCM...Made in Canada...Weston, Ontario." No other information that I can find.

So, still looking to nail down the year for sure!

thanks

I, also, have a metal badge Rambler re-paint with the serial # GXXXXX.  There is no doubt it is a G.  In fact, this bike is the reason I started the thread as to when the metal head badges ceased.  If you were to follow the 70s serial number guide this would put the G as a 1974 and therefore the metal headbadge would still have been in use, but, most feel that 64/65 was the last use of the metal badge.

Its not inconceivable that my re-paint had the badge added, but the fellow who painted it and from whom I got ot assured me the badge was on it

Indeed, as my collection approaches 100, I will be weeding out a bunch as summer approaches.  I have to go through my inventory  and hopefully be able to concentrate on pre 1920s bikes, CCM baloons and CCM Road & track racers.  This bike will be one of those culled.  In time, I will post a list.

Just to follow up to Wayne, after getting to these 20" Mustangs one of my  original 2 green earliest models bikes is an H sn# which looks identical to my first year colour add for the `The Bicycles for 65' `New concepts in fun and adventure' to highlight the intro to the first year Canadian Muscle or Banana bicycle ala Stingray. The next bike seems to be the letter i sn# and this bike still retains the detachable rear support and no sculptured head tube and now has the foil badge, this particular bike was rescued from a dumpster rusty but one of my favourites! The other 2 early 20" frames I will try and check but they are both repaints, and would require a little more effort. It will not be long before all you guys have a handlebar on these sn#s congrats, which will help us all in the end, lets hope this info  does not migrate to the Bay  as we have all seen for the 1921,,,sn# online, seems a little shady in my books.Wheels are Good,JCCM

I believe your blue bike is a 1966.

I posted my thoughts on the serial numbers between 1961 and 1976 in the past.

My collection was up to 110 bikes at one point.

I sorted through over 50 of my 1960s and 1970s CCM's and came up with a fairly accurate serial number chart.

I don't claim that it is 100% correct, but have not found any bikes that do not fall into the proper spots yet.

I have come accross a few years where there are defintely 2 different letters used in the serial numbers.

I believe the 1966 bikes also had metal headbadges, probably the last year, besides the re-introduction of a metal badge for 1977's only.

I'm still hoping somebody has a 1966 CCM poster or catalog hiding in their collection. :-)

So, we've narrowed it down to somewhere between 1963 and 1966. That may be as close as it gets, I guess. Where can I find this list of 1961-76 serial numbers?

This reminds me of trying to nail down the age of my old Gretsch guitar. Gretsch serial numbers are notoriously inaccurate, the company changed hands, there was a fire at the factory etc., so often you end up trying to date the guitar by its features. Sometimes it's easy, sometimes it's almost impossible. (I believe mine is a 1973, but I wouldn't bet the mortgage on it.)

 Maybe carbon-dating is the answer.......

I have the identical bike! Well it was identical!!!  Serial G153189. I was told it was a 1974...? CCM serial numbers are confusing me! I'd just like to know what decade it's from??? I bought it thinking it was from the year my girlfriend was born. I also have a CCM Encore serial E87604, was told it was 68 or 69 !?!  My CCM tandem serial D24570, belive it to be a 1971? Any info would be greatful.  The serial number to my recent find is 4D0421 , 1940?  womens loop frame.

Hello all:

I just aquired the same identical bike as this yesterday. It is the same blue with white fenders and chainguard. Also has the metal head badge and the round CCM stamped fork tops. The serial # starts with letter "E" which indicates it as a 1965 model. The bike looks 100% original and complete. Hope this info. helps.
