CCM 1961 child size bike restoration

Hi, I picked up this neat little bike for FREE off the street and thought it would be a fun project to get it running again. First problem is how to disengage the chain connector link, there is no larger space to push the plate in to and it appears to be a "push on or snap on" fit (??). The other side of the link has "W Germany" stamped on it...any ideas?

the ch ain may need to be twisted sideways then lighly pried apart william rudolph
