CCM Encore

Hi,

I have his CCM Encore and plan on restoring it soon.  Just wondering if anyone had any information on the years it was produced.  It looks (under some road grim) to have a Shimano 333 coaster hub.  The serial# is A766682.

Thanks,

Daryl

"A" code and that metal headbadges says it's a 1977 model.

The coaster sounds right.

I have a bike Encore for man and it's a 1979.. unfortunately i have no picture from my bike but it is blue with a metal badge. You can keep a good cleaning, regrease and relube the bike and you can keep it because it's a solide bike like a tank. :)

Thanks folks.  Good to know. Just curious...how does the letter system work. "A" being 1977?

Thanks again,

Daryl

The "A" being a 1977 was confirmed with the knowledge obtained from the details found in our collections of CCM catalogs and some collecting of data from serial numbers of bikes in our possession.

(including the 50 in my basement.)  smiley

The most up-to-date chart can be found somewhere on this site.

I found one on the internet which had the late 1970's wrong, but I wasn't going to go through the trouble of correcting the site owner. Some people just don't like to hear the facts. wink

Clean up the bike, give the paint a good waxing and post new pictures when done.

I just noticed that this "A" code bike has different down tube decals and has the "Encore" on the chainguard.

This goes against the predetermined description of other 1977 models.

Any thoughts on this from other members? Could it be a 1978? I do not recall seeing that downtube decal.

Anybody have a 1978 catalog or poster?

Could be a 1977 stamped frame built up with 1978 or later livery, a common occurrence towards the end of a run.  My 77 brouchure does not show the decals as pictured, so your assumption that it is later has merit

Thanks Everyone,

I am learning a lot. Just wondering what the general opinion on repairing these bikes? Keep as is or paint?

Thanks,

Daryl

Oops, I meant REPAINTING.

I'm keeping my two Imperials as-is.  The paint is hopelessy shot, but the chrome is fine and the right details can still be seen.  The mechanicals work fine, so it's just keep the chrome up, oil where necessary, and inflate the tires.  The paintwork and welds were never a thing of beauty and I don't have access to bead blasting and a paint booth.  Then there is the question of replacing all the decals.  I also have a Rambler that has been repainted - it rides fine but clearly isn't original.  That is the one I ride in the bad weather.

I will say this that they are original only once and the paint tells tha story and with the cleaning products they have today one can bring paint back to a nice sheen. This is only my opinion.

I agree -- the bike has a nice original look with the decals, the paint is a bit rough. It would look sharper with a cleaning. Repainting is a last resort. I am repainting a CCM because it was repainted badly about 20 years ago, and the original paint was sanded down at that time.  Generally the old paint and decals on a bike exude charm and are original, so keep as long as possible.
